When an elected member stands before his constituents, he must take accountability and responsibility for the good AND the bad. That is what this job requires and what you can expect from John Meredith.
John will work to invest in our neighborhoods, to create new parks and recreational facilities across the district. He will also secure funding for community center and libraries.
Zeirdt Road and Martin Road have been under construction for over ten years. John will make completing these projects a top priority, as well as improving and paving roads throughout the district.
John will always provide transparency on all matters before the council. Additionally, he will provide further details on issues that constituents express concerns about during office visits, at town halls, on phone calls, and in emails.
Families in District 5 often suffer from out of town landlords who don’t keep up their properties and allow irresponsible and criminal renters. John will push for fines and stronger laws to deal with absentee landlords.
John believes our children deserve a world class education. He will work to provide internet access for all students and support funding for teachers to obtain a National Board Certification.
John will work to facilitate meaningful reform in the Huntsville Police Department that includes more diversity and justice for all.
John will be at City Hall three days a week. He will hold a monthly Town Hall in the neighborhoods of District 5 so that his constituents don't have to travel.
John is the son of civil rights legend James Meredith who believed when the government fails to serve the people, a leader must step up and fight for all. John feels our voices are not being heard on the Huntsville City Council and we have been left behind because of ineffective leadership. He believes it is time for an upgrade. He asks for your vote in the Huntsville City Council District 5 runoff on Tuesday, October 6.
